Last Friday The Dragons took on the Blues South in the latest round of the WRU Reebok Regional matches.

The game was played in terrible conditions although both teams tried very hard to play running rugby. The Dragons set their stall out from the outset as they dominated the set pieces which set the platform for the likes of centre Adam Hughes to thrive on. The first try came from prop Stewart Maguire after Danny Ellis had slotted a penalty on 13 minutes, he also slotted over the conversion to make the half time score 10 – 6 in The Dragons favour.

The second half started with The Dragons in a determined mood to finish off the Blues South, with captain Craig Fillier leading by example and also picking up the man of the match accolade thanks in no small part to him scoring on 36 minutes with the try again converted by Danny Ellis. The final score came from man mountain prop Dan Watchurst this time converted by Gareth Hopkins to make the final score 24-6 to The Dragons and thus virtually making them the other finalists along with the Ospreys.

Forwards coach Mark Williams was especially pleased with the performance from the set pieces in which The Dragons totally dominated.

Special mention also has to go to Bedwas RFC who agreed to host the fixture at the last minute.
