The Dragons U18s were denied a deserved victory in last night's WRU Reebok Regional Championship game at Stradey Park when Scarlets wing Simon Gardner levelled the game at 8-8 with a late try.

Daniel Newton gave the Scarlets a deserved first half lead courtesy of a penalty but after Adam Hughes had crossed for a try for the Dragons shortly after the interval, the region went further ahead courtesy of a pently from outside half David Langdon.

In the end it was Gardner who denied the Dragons maximum points - claiming a point for the Scarlets with a try two minutes from time.

Speaking after the game Dragons U18 team manager Billy Vivian said, "I think in the end it was a fair result. They were hard conditions to play in with heavy drizzle throughout the game which made for difficult handling conditions. Both sides tried to play rugby and the Scarlets led 3-0 at half time before Adam Hughes scored for the Dragons and David Langdon landed a penalty. The Scarlets scored at the end to get the draw but it was a 100% better performance from our last game against the Ospreys with noteable performances from Rhys Jenkins and the centre pairing of Adam Hughes and Ben Sweet worked well. Both the lineout and scrum went well and our defence was outstanding. We will go into our next game against the Blues with confidence and we need to get something from that game to keep us in the hunt for the title."
