The Newport Gwent Dragons region will be well represented in the third and fourth legs of the IRB Sevens World Series, with six of the region’s players named in the squad.

Nineteen-year-old Dragons Academy and Ebbw Vale scrum half Robert Lewis joins twin brother James who impressed at the recent Dubai and George Sevens, while Dragons no 8 Lewis Evans is also included for the first time.

Dragons James Harris and Aled Thomas and Newport centre Nick Wakely will also represent the region in New Zealand and USA next month.

Speaking about the prosperity these opportunities bring for the players and the region, Head Coach Paul Turner commented:

“Sevens rugby provides a fantastic opportunity for our players to gain experience on the world stage and against some of the best talent the world has to offer. Good players relish the occasion to develop their talents, and bring the experience back to the region and the fifteen-a-side game.”

Dragons Academy Manager John Williams added: “I’m delighted to see our Academy boys gaining recognition for all their hard work while taking part in such a high profile event. It’s great for the personal development of the players involved and also the Dragons region and testimony to the hard work that’s ongoing throughout the region.”
