Clubs, players coaches and support staff from the region were honoured last night at the fourth Principality Premiership Annual Awards dinner held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Sven Cronk of Newport was named the Principality Premiership Best Coach, having guided the Black and Ambers from seventh in the Premiership table last season to second this season, the club's best finish since the 2004/05 season. The former Newport and Pontypridd front row stalwart has switched effectively and rapidly from playing into success as a coach.
The Principality Building Society Fair Play Award went to Pontypool RFC for the warmth of the welcome the club provided to match officials throughout the season.
Newport centre Tom Riley was and utility back Geraint O'Driscoll of Pontypool were both shortlisted for the Principality Player of the year award.
The Principality Building Society Services to Rugby Award shortlist were Ron Taylor of Ebbw Vale who has given countless hours of his time to the club as a volunteer for the past 15 years and John Herrera of Cross Keys who has worked tirelessly for the club since retiring as a player just after World War II. Both shortlisted nominees were also recognised for their contribution to this level of the game by the Principality Building Society.
