UNDER 18'S NARROWLY MISS OUT

UNDER 18'S NARROWLY MISS OUT

The Dragons Under 18's narrowly missed out on recording their second victory of their pre season against a well drilled Northampton Saints team at Rodney Parade yesterday.

The Saints came out of the blocks putting the young Dragons under constant pressure and were rewarded with a try and three penalties in a half which they dominated.

After the break the Dragons came out with a new lease of life and had the ascendancy scoring tries through centres Jack Dixon and Hallam Amos one which was converted by Nail Martin.

After another period of pressure a penalty was awarded and Martin duly converted making the score 15 -14 with 5 minutes to go.  The Saints rallied and scored a penalty of their own which gained them the lead.

With the last play of the game the Saints digressed and it was up to the Dragons to snatch victory with a last gasp penalty, unfortunately it drifted wide and the Saints held on to claim the victory.

Will Thomas said " It was a disappointing first half display but i was please the way the lads showed characture in the second half to nearly snatch victory. We have now given most of the squad an opportunity before our first regional game on the 11th of September 2.30 at Newbridge RFC against RGC1404 and are somewhat closer to our starting fifteen."
