TRIBUTE TO KEN JAMES

Newport Gwent Dragons will be holding attribute to Ken James, the deputy conductor and founding member of the Dragons Choir who sadly passed away last weekend.

Ken’s death is particularly poignant for the rugby community as not only was he a Drgaons supporter, but he died on his way home from watching Wales defeat Italy on Saturday evening.

His loss will be marked at the Dragons’ derby game against Cardiff Blues. However, because of his love of music and his involvement in the choir, the region is asking supporters of both the Dragons and the Blues to “Sing through the silence” in Ken’s memory.

Instead of the traditional silence, the Dragons Choir will be singing Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer and supporters from both teams are asked to join in the tribute to Ken.

Dragons Choir spokesman Stephen Needs said “We are all devastated at the unexpected passing of Ken. He was a key member of our choir and a good friend. His family are in all of our thoughts at this time;” whilst Musical Director Helen Robbins said "He has been an amazing support and mentor to me as well as a real friend. I will miss him so much."

Newport Gwent Dragons Chief Executive Chris Brown said “We were all saddened at Rodney Parade at the death of Ken James. Ken has been involved in the Dragons choir since the inception and his hard work has brought a great deal of pleasure to our supporters and players on a matchday. I would like to extend the condolences of everybody at the Dragons to Ken’s family, friends and his fellow choir members.”
