The visit to Rodney Parade took place as part of the club’s community activity, which is sponsored by the South Wales electricity company.
The pupils were shown a range of rugby memorabilia and also visited the Dragons’ changing room where they were able to wear a jersey worn by Welsh International Taulupe Faletau in last season’s game against Ulster.
The club’s Education Officer Phil James explained some interesting facts about the South African and New Zealand rugby sides, including how the All Blacks got their name, while Community Manager Mike Sage’s sports session put plenty of smiles on the youngsters’ faces.
As part of WPD’s sponsorship, the youngsters will also get to watch a Dragons match later his season.
WPD’s Karen Welch, who took part in the special day for the pupils, said: “We feel it’s the responsibility of large organisations like ours to play a full and active role in the communities they serve. It’s important to support education schemes like this the youngsters get a real buzz out of meeting some of their rugby hero’s and being able to have a behind the scenes look around Club is something they will never forget.”
