Dragons v Treviso Match Report

The Dragons were successful in their quest to take away a win (19-12) tonight against Benetton Treviso at Rodney Parade.

The Men of Gwent were back in action in the Guinness PRO12 and took away their second hard earned victory of the season.

It was the Welsh Region who opened up their account first after a third minute penalty from Jason Tovey was slotted over the posts.

Treviso managed to level the scores after 12 minutes through their own penalty kick from fullback Jayden Hayward.

With 23 minutes on the clock the Dragons kicked to the corner from a scrum penalty. It was flanker Nic Cudd who crashed over the try line with a little help from his fellow forwards. Tovey added the extras and the Dragons were in a comfortable lead.

Tovey and Hayward exchanged penalty kicks with each other before the referee called time on the first half.

Half time: Newport Gwent Dragons 13 – Benetton Treviso 6

The second half saw two more penalties exchanged by the teams only for Hayward to kick another one leaving just a four-point lead to the Dragons.

With half on hour left on the clock the Dragons had to push forward to make sure that they secured the win. However it was made difficult as the referee penalised substitution Rhys Buckley at the breakdown around 40 metres out with Treviso missing the resulting kick.

Tovey was given the chance to extend the Dragons score and he nailed it, making it five out of five attempts.

It looked like the Dragons were over for their second try of the evening, this time Nick Scott claiming that he had crossed, but it wasn’t awarded after a talk with the touch judge.
