Carl Meyer, the Newport Gwent Dragons full back, appeared today before an independent PRO12 Rugby Disciplinary Committee having been cited by an independent Citing Commissioner for an alleged dangerous charge on an opponent, contrary to Law 10.4 (g), in the Guinness PRO12 match against Ulster in the Kingspan Stadium, Belfast on Friday, 5 February 2016.
The Disciplinary Committee, which heard the case at London Heathrow, was chaired by Roddy Dunlop QC (Scotland) along with Marco Cordelli (Italy) and Iain Goodall (Scotland). The Disciplinary Committee reviewed the video footage of the incident and the other evidence, and listened to explanations from the player and his representatives. The player did not accept that he had committed foul play under Law 10.4 (g) and said that the collision had been accidental.
The Disciplinary Committee found that, while it perfectly understood why the citing complaint had been made, it could not be satisfied that the player's actions constituted foul play and therefore the citing complaint would not be upheld. Accordingly, Mr Meyer is able to return to playing with immediate effect.
