The event takes place on the weekend of 18th and 19th June and will raise money towards St David’s Hospice Care. The charity cares for over 3,000 patients at their hospices, day centres and at home.
Dragons CEO Stuart Davies said:
“We support a number of charities throughout the season with fundraising opportunities and exposure. This season we also wanted to choose one local charity that we could be proactive with throughout the season. Running the charity bike ride with St David’s Hospice Care allows us to channel our collective energy and really make an impact.
The Charity Bike Ride will take riders to all four regional grounds and includes an overnight stop at Acorn Camping and Caravan Park between Swansea and Cardiff. The event is expected to feature Dragons players and former players, who will be announced in the coming weeks. Stuart continued:
"This is an event we hope will capture interest and attention for rugby and non-rugby fans alike.”
St David’s Hospice Deputy CEO, and former Welsh International Adrian Hadley, stated:
“We are very grateful to the Dragons for being chosen as their charity of the year. They have already implemented several fundraising initiatives, cumulating in the region-to-region ride which will visit Parc y Scarlets, The Liberty Stadium. BT Arms Park before Rodney Parade for a Family community celebration on Sunday the 19th of June. The monies raised will go towards the ongoing running costs of the Hospice.”
To enter the ride a £50 registration fee is payable to cover costs including a Dragons rider jersey. A minimum sponsorship of £250 per entrant is requested, with all proceeds going directly to St David’s Hospice Care.
