Dragons Official Supporters’ Club Launches

The Dragons Supporters’ Club will serve as a professional and independent representative body for supporters across the Region.

Following a consultation and application process a Committee of 11 members has now been established to assume management of the Dragons’ Supporters Club. The Committee has been chosen as a representative group of Dragons supporters from across the Region boasting a range of skills and knowledge required to establish a Supporters’ Club in its inaugural year.

Pete Grzonka, Newport Gwent Dragons Commercial Director said: “We are really excited at the prospect of having a recognised body which we can consult with and engage at regular intervals and important times through the season. We would like to thank those on the Committee for their ongoing hard work.”

The Dragons Supporters’ Club will offer a new recognised voice for supporters of the Dragons, which will replace the long standing Friends of Newport Rugby Trust in representing Dragons’ interests at Regional Level.

“We would like to acknowledge the input that Friends of Newport Rugby have made and thank them for their efforts to date” Grzonka continued.

The Dragons Supporters’ Club will maintain a 2-way relationship with the Region while establishing strong ties with community & businesses and driving improvements to the Match Day experience for the Supporters.

Brad Hayward, Chairman of the Dragons Supporters’ Club, said “It is genuinely an honour to be involved in the establishment of this Committee, and be a part of such a positive and encouraging endeavor.”

The Dragons Supporters’ Club aims to represent the supporter community in total. Membership of the Supporters’ Club is free and granted automatically to Newport Gwent Dragons Season and General Members. Supporters who are not Dragons Members are able to request membership through the Supporters’ Club Committee. Supporters’ Club events will therefore be open to all.

“The efforts and generosity of those involved, from the Committee, the Regional Leadership, and the local community has been truly humbling. I’m positive that these efforts will lead to tangible improvements for both Newport Gwent Dragons, and it’s dedicated and passionate supporters” Hayward continued.

The Dragons Supporters’ Club is a not for profit organisation which will secure funding through sponsorship and fund raising initiatives throughout the season, supported by Newport Gwent Dragons. Details of these will be finalised in due course.

Matt Andrews, Committee Member, said: “We hope that the Supporters’ Club will give all supporters the opportunity to become further invested in the potential success of the Region, facilitating positive interaction and increased support for the Dragons in all areas of Gwent.”

The Dragons Supporters’ Club will engage supporters across their website including, Facebook and Twitter pages.
