Dragons v Scarlets Match Report

Newport Gwent Dragons took on fellow Welsh Region the Scarlets in their second friendly of the season.

The visitors from the West managed to pip the Dragons during the final quarter with two consecutive tries to take a win  at Rodney Parade this evening.

The Dragons lead the match with tries from Captain Thomas Rhys Thomas, Tom Prydie and Jack Dixon but the 38-man-squad wasn’t to succeed as the Scarlets ended the match with a result of Dragons 20 – Scarlets 29.

Newport Gwent Dragons opened their account with a penalty from fullback Geraint Rhys Jones after the away side were penalised for being offside.

Newly appointed Dragons Captain felt the wrath of the referee, Ben Whitehouse, after being sent to the sin bin for not releasing after a tackle. But this didn’t deter the 14-man team as wing Tom Prydie crossed the whitewash in the far corner.

The Scarlets were also penalised and they too earnt themselves a yellow card, and it was Dragons skipper Thomas who made the most of the opposition being  a man down by crossing the try line, to make it a 13-0 lead to the home side.

However the Scarlets found their way over the try line and it was Gareth Owen who claimed it before the break.

After the break the Dragons powered over for another try. With the Scarlets defending their line well it was centre Jack Dixon who broke through the defence, with the help of Rynard Landman.

Replacement fly-half Angus O’Brien converted the try to make it 20-5, just before the Scarlets made their attack as Tom Williams found a space and raced to his try line over 60m away. The conversion was added and just after the restart the Scarlets were awarded a penalty and went for the posts, resulting in a successful conversion.

But the Scarlets weren't finished there as Dan Jones raced over for a long range try and added the conversion to take away a win of Dragons 20 – Scarlets 29.
