Gasson, 21, joins regional team-mates Taine Basham, Joe Goodchild and Will Talbot-Davies for the event in South Africa as an injury replacement for Scarlets’ injured Ryan Conbeer.

Wales had a baptism of fire in the first leg of the World Rugby Sevens in Dubai as they came up against eventual finalists New Zealand and USA in the pool stages on day one.

Richie Pugh’s side enjoyed a strong second day with victories over Zimbabwe and Japan.

This weekend they face Australia, Scotland and Canada as Wales, the second least-capped side in Dubai, use the event as a key part in player development.

The WRU is now increasing the exposure promising young players will get to the high intensity of the World Series, a tournament which has played a significant role in the careers of the likes of Justin Tipuric, Alex Cuthbert, Luke Morgan and Sam Cross.

Wales Sevens: Afon Bagshaw (vc), Cai Devine, Owen Jenkins, Jay Jones, Ben Roach, Luke Treharne (c), Dane Blacker, Ben Jones, Taine Basham, George Gasson, Joe Goodchild, Will Talbot-Davies, Tomi Lewis.
