Rise to the Challenge - Hill

Cory Hill will become the first Dragons player to captain Wales since 2006 when he leads his country out against Argentina today.

Michael Owen is the only other Dragon to captain Wales, doing so 6 times, with the last occasion against France in the Six Nations 12 years ago.

Today the 16-times capped lock Hill will skipper Warren Gatland’s side against the Pumas in San Juan (kick-off 8.40pm UK time) and he’s determined his side will rise to the challenge.

“It’s a great occasion for me and really proud moment for me and my family, so really looking forward to it,” said Hill at yesterday’s captain’s run.

“It’s a great venue here as an old football stadium so the boys will be pretty pumped and excited for the challenge.

“We know we will have to be physical and front up. There’s a hostile crowd here who will be on our backs all afternoon I would imagine.

The Argentina team all play together in Super Rugby for the Jaguares so they know each other’s game very well and are currently on a six game unbeaten streak, last losing to Super Rugby runaway leaders Crusaders two months ago.

“We know it’s going to be a big challenge and they are going to be pretty pumped themselves. Argentina are a passionate country and they bring a lot of driving mauls and are big up front in the scrum.”
