Show Racism the Red Card at Dragons

Sixty children learned about racism in sport and society during a special event hosted by Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) at the home of the Dragons this week.

Pupils from St Patricks RC Primary School and Lliswerry Primary School attended Rodney Parade on Wednesday to take part in the SRtRC educational club event.

Education Worker Steve Jenkins delivered a workshop in the morning to the young people educating them on the topic of racism, using interactive activities and discussions.

Pupils then had to create newspapers and were tasked with researching racism in sport and society for articles.

In the afternoon pupils watched an educational film, which gave them a last opportunity to obtain further knowledge on the topic before the question and answer session in a press conference styled event.

The youngsters, now in the role of newspaper journalists, were selected to ask questions, introduce themselves and the newspaper they ‘worked’ for followed by their question.

The children posed some really challenging questions and prize winners Kadie & Luke won Dragons match tickets, along with a SRtRC goodie bag for asking the best question.

All pupils received Dragons flags and match tickets for an upcoming match at Rodney Parade.

SRtRC would like to the schools for attending the event and Dragons for working in partnership to host the event and for providing the prizes for the pupils.
