Howells ready for champions challenge

Wing Dafydd Howells believes the Dragons have a back line to trouble any side in the Guinness PRO14 as they prepare to face the champions.

Dragons hit the road for the first time this season when they tackle the reigning PRO14 and European champions, Leinster Rugby, at the RDS Arena in Dublin on Saturday (kick-off 5.15pm).

Howells, 23, will be hoping to be involved once again and make his third league appearance for the Dragons since his summer move from the Ospreys.

And he revealed how much he was enjoying life at the region and the firepower in the backs.

“I’ve settled in really well and I’m really enjoying it out there,” he said. “As a group we are positive. We’ve got that monkey off our back with the first win and we can almost relax now and can push forward and get going with our season.

“With the players we have got in the back line, the attack takes care of itself. You have Jordan (Williams) making numerous line breaks and beating people for fun. When we get opportunities we have got the finishers to take it.”

Howells admits the Dragons face a difficult assignment in Dublin but has urged the team to go with the right mentality.

“It’s a tough place to go but we will go out there and try and make it difficult for them. We want to get in the game early and try to push forward,” he said.

“Ultimately we want to win. None of us are thinking we will go out there and just have a go. We’ve got to make it as difficult as possible for them.

“It’s a tough place to go; the crowd are right on top of you and when they do get momentum and the ball rolling they are hard to stop.

“We’ve got to stop that, try to shut them down and concentrate on our own game.”
