Jarvis set to hand Dragons fitness boost

Summer signing Aaron Jarvis is set to hand Dragons a fitness boost with the prop pushing for his long-awaited league debut for the region against Zebre Rugby this weekend.

Wales international Jarvis, 32, ruptured his bicep in pre-season following his move to Dragons from Clermont.

But Head Coach Bernard Jackman revealed the front row ace could now feature when Guinness PRO14 action returns to Rodney Parade on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 5.15pm).

“Aaron Jarvis could be back for us. He is doing his return to play protocols for contact prep and he could feature,” said Jackman.

“He could feature instead of Leon (Brown) as we look to give him time with his AC joint.

“Aaron’s return will be four weeks ahead of schedule. He is meticulous with his rehab and a really good pro. I think he shocked everybody with how quick he has come back from his bicep injury.

“We are hoping that Harrison Keddie will be back soon too, but definitely Aaron and if he doesn’t play this week he will play next week and that is way ahead of schedule.

“It was a real clean rupture and there wasn’t much scar tissue for Aaron. We hoped it would be quick and we’re delighted that it is.”

Meanwhile, Jackman has admitted he does not expect fly half Gavin Henson to feature this week while wing Hallam Amos is set to see a surgeon after his elbow dislocation against Leinster.

“Hallam has had a scan and he will see a surgeon before the end of the week. We are still looking at four to six weeks, the ligament damage wasn’t too bad,” he said.

“Ashton (Hewitt) is looking like four to six weeks still and Tyler (Morgan) around four weeks.

“We still haven’t got massive clarity on Gavin (Henson),” he added. “It is still swollen with fluid and we are waiting for that to settle down before we know more. He definitely won’t be this week and it’s probably two weeks yet.”
