Fly-half Josh Lewis has stated the importance of finishing the season on a high with victory over his former club Scarlets - and claiming a first ever Judgement Day win for Dragons at the Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).
The 27-year-old - who has made 21 appearances so far this season and scored 111 points for the region - spent three years with the Llanelli-based region and is relishing the challenge of facing his former team-mates.
“It’s an exciting challenge and I’m looking forward to playing in the home national stadium,” said Lewis.
“The game is massive and we haven’t really had the season we wanted, but we’ve got one last chance to give the fans something, ourselves something and the coaches something.
“We’re not taking this match lightly: we want to win it and end on a high, leading into next season.
“I always look forward to playing against my old clubs and I know a few of the lads I’ll be coming up against.
“I spent three years at Scarlets and a few of the boys have made it through to the senior squad, so it’s going to be good to play against my old teammates.”
Lewis has been named to start at No. 10 by Head Coach Ceri Jones and went on to reveal that he will be competing in his first ever Judgement Day - and it will be the largest crowd that he has ever played in front of.
“It’s great to be starting and with a large number of tickets sold, it should be a good atmosphere,” he added.
“I’ve never played at Judgement Day before, but I’ve watched it and played in the Principality Stadium twice with Merthyr Youth, so I’ve never played regional there.
“Also, I’ve never played in front of a crowd as big as what’s expected: I think the biggest one I’ve competed in front of was about 20,000.”
In a new feature at Judgement Day VII, when a player opts to kick for goal the posts will light-up green if they’re successful and red if not.
And Merthyr Tydfil-born Lewis is all smiles when asked for his thoughts on the innovative technology.
“It’s funky," he stated. "When you’re concentrating, you don’t really pay much attention to the posts and as soon as I know I’ve hit the ball, I turn and go. It’s something different I suppose and I'm sure the fans will enjoy it."
