Lock Matthew Screech scored two sensational tries in Dragons first-ever Judgement Day victory over Scarlets and expressed his delight following the final whistle.
The 26-year-old had only scored one try this season before his brilliant brace in the capital in an unforgettable and heart-stopping encounter.
And after a pulsating clash he highlighted squad belief as being key towards the epic two-point win.
“We worked really hard for each other,” he said.
“At half-time, we said that we felt the set-piece was going for us if we could keep going with it and Ceri [Jones] said to keep playing like that - so we came out all guns blazing.
“We gave everything for the first ten minutes of the second-half and pulled away with a nice ten-point lead at one stage.
“We’ve got that belief all the time, so it’s good to show what we can do: we’ve got a great squad with a lot of belief.
“It’s been a pretty tough season and we’ve had quite a lot of injuries, so to finish the season with another derby win is great for us and hopefully we can kick-on next season.”
Screech went on to describe both of his tries, prior to revealing how much it means to secure a second derby day victory to conclude the campaign.
“I don’t score many tries,” he smiled. “But with the first one I could see that everyone was falling open and there was one or two there, so I stepped a couple of yards and said to give it to me, before falling over really.
“The second one was quite similar because we went through a few phases together and I could see a lot of boys just looking at the ruck, so I thought I’d get into a good position and scored a try.”
He concluded: “It was a first Judgement Day victory, a great occasion and the best game of the year to win, especially against Scarlets.”
