Boss praise for 'outstanding' returning Moriarty

21/12/2019

Dean Ryan hailed an ‘outstanding’ return by Wales international back row Ross Moriarty as Dragons claimed a dramatic 22-20 win over Scarlets in the Guinness PRO14.

Moriarty was a second half replacement in torrential rain in Newport as he made his first appearance for the region since April.

And Ryan was delighted to see the back row tyro back in the thick of the action and putting his power behind a sensational late win.

“I thought Ross was outstanding,” said the Director of Dragons Rugby.

“A game that is played with a bloke stood in front of you, or coming the other way, is what Ross does well.

“I thought he was probably the pick of anybody tonight when it came to collisions.

“There was one tackle when he came off a scrum and lost his feet in the wet. But he still whacked the nine and I thought that is a great decision,” said Ryan.

“Most players when they lose their feet lose the impetus, but moments like that is where Ross helped us in the last half hour.

“It’s great to have him back and I’m really enjoying working with him.”

Derby day returns for the opening game of 2020 as we welcome Ospreys to Rodney Parade on Saturday, January 4 (kick-off 3pm). Click HERE to buy your tickets and join us for more top Guinness PRO14 action.
