Jones full of respect for Benetton progress

20/02/2019

Head Coach Ceri Jones has nothing for respect for the way Benetton Rugby have kicked on this season as he prepares to take his Dragons to Italy this weekend.

Benetton have hit a rich vein of form in recent months as they have climbed to third spot in Conference B of the Guinness PRO14.

The Italians have only lost ocne in their last ten matches in all competitions – a 20-9 loss to Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop – and have not tasted defeat at Stadio Monigo since early November.

“We have nothing but respect for them. You all saw what they did to a good Scarlets team last week,” said Jones.

“They were comfortable winners in the end. They were extremely physical and pragmatic in what they did.

“We need to keep building and moving forward,” added Jones. “Edinburgh are a good side, have a strong home record and had several Scottish internationals released back to them so we knew it was going to be a tough ask last week.

“To be in that game and in control for 50 or 60 minutes shows the massive strides we are making. We must need to get across that line and just complete it.

“We took positives from it, know where we are at and know what we have got to do going forward.”
