Buckland eager for champion challenge

08/06/2019

Dragons scrum half Dafydd Buckland admits Wales need a complete performance when they face defending champions France in the World U20 Championship on Saturday.

Buckland has won a call-up for the big encounter – alongside regional team-mate Ed Scragg – as he replaces the ill Harri Morgan.

The Cardiff-born back knows the feared French are in good form going into the clash in Rosario after overcoming Fiji in their opener.

The French also came from behind to beat Wales 32-10 in the Six Nations earlier this year.

However, Buckland is convinced they can come out the right side of the result this time if they can produce a repeat of the superb 30-25 opening day win over host nation Argentina.

“This is a big stadium to play in and there is going to be a hell of a crowd so I’m really looking forward to it,” he said.

“Hopefully we can get a win again but it’s going to be a really tough game.

“It was amazing watching the boys put in a huge team effort against Argentina – we had to sit tight as a side but I was really impressed with the boys.

“We will be up against another tough French pack so the boys need to front up,” he added.

“We simply have to play for the full 80 minutes this time – it’s not just playing 60 minutes like we did in the Six Nations and hopefully we can come out on top.”

The game with France Under-20s will be live on S4C.
