Dragons centre Aneurin Owen is looking forward to the World Rugby U20 Championship after starting for Wales in every match of the recent U20 Six Nations.
The 18-year-old scored the opening try in his nation’s final fixture of the competition against champions Ireland and he is eager to see the squad’s development show in Argentina in June.
“We pushed the Grand Slam winners in Ireland – who have beaten everyone – all the way to the end,” said Owen.
“It’s always good to cross the line as I don’t do it very often, but we wanted to keep the energy high in the second-half and feel we could have won the game.
“I’m proud of the boys and we can kick-on now towards the World Cup because there is still a lot for us to improve on.”
Wales concluded the tournament in fourth place, beating England and Italy, but falling short against France, Scotland and Ireland.
Owen continued: “Against Scotland we were slow out of the blocks, although we started well in the Ireland game. There were a couple of moments where we could have won the game in the second-half, but credit to Ireland because they were very good.
“Hopefully come the World Cup we can make the tight games – like the ones we’ve had against France and Ireland in the Six Nations – go our way.”
Argentina, France and Fiji are Cymru’s Pool A opponents in the World Rugby U20 Championship and Owen concluded: “A lot of the boys are new to U20 level this season and this Six Nations has given us all confidence we can test ourselves against the best. We will look forward to the World Cup now.”
