Three To Watch

Niko Matawalu

Niko Matawalu makes his return from Rugby World Cup duty with Fiji for the clash with Dragons at Rodney Parade. Matawalu made his debut for Glasgow Warriors against Cardiff Blues in October 2012 and re-joined the club at the end of August 2017. The flying Fijian has provided many a memorable moment in a Glasgow jersey and was a key figure in the Warriors title-winning campaign in the 2014/15 season, scoring six tries in his sixteen appearances.

Brandon Thomson

Former South African U20 international Brandon Thomson made his debut for Glasgow Warriors against Ulster in February 2017. The fly-half was man-of-the-match in a 29-20 victory over the Scarlets at Scotstoun in December 2018, guiding his side to victory despite playing the majority of the match with 14 men. Also capable of playing at full-back, Thomson has also represented the Stormers in Super Rugby, as well as Western Province in South Africa’s domestic Currie Cup competition.

Callum Gibbons

Captain Callum Gibbins joined from Super Rugby side the Hurricanes ahead of the 2017/18 season and made his debut against Ospreys in September 2017. The hard-tackling flanker made 15 appearances across all competitions in his debut season, scoring six tries in the process as he quickly established himself as a favourite with the Warrior Nation. His leadership qualities were a valuable asset to the squad, a fact that saw him jointly awarded the Al Kellock Leadership Award alongside Peter Horne before being named as one of the club's co-captains for the 2018/19 season.
