Ultimate XV: Luke Charteris

03/04/2020

We take a closer look at the winner of the first second row category in our Ultimate XV for Dragons feature… Luke Charteris.

A towering figure – standing 6ft 9in tall - Luke Charteris was a huge presence for Dragons during his time with the region between 2003 and 2012.

The Camborne-born second row made his debut for the region in 2003 and played just short of 150 games for Dragons. He was also made captain in August 2011.

Charteris would also shine in France with playing spells at Perpignan and Racing Metro before joining Bath in 2016.

Charteris ruled the airwaves in the international arena, playing 74 Tests for Wales after his debut in 2004 against South Africa.

He featured in the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cup – making 12 appearances in the showpiece tournament. Charteris also played 25 games for Wales in the Six Nations.

Charteris retired from playing in 2019 when he took on a new role as lineout specialist at English Premiership club Bath Rugby.
