Vote for your favourite home victory of the season?

20/04/2020

With the season currently on hold there is no better time to reflect on what has happened during the 2019/2020 season so far. The Dragons have begun to turn Rodney Parade into a fortress with seven wins coming at home this season.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best victories at home this season and we are asking Dragons supporters to vote for which home win is their favourite of the season so far?

Dragons 18-5 Glasgow Warriors – Dragons Stun Glasgow With Big Win

Ashton Hewitt and Taine Basham grabbed second half tries as Dragons produced a sensational home display to shock Glasgow Warriors 18-5 in the Guinness PRO14

In wet and windy conditions, two first half penalties from the deadly accurate Sam Davies gave Dragons a slender 6-0 lead at the break.

The home side exploded into life after the interval with back row Basham burrowing going over – to make it three tries in three games. Wing Hewitt, who created the first score with a superb run, then grabbed a second after chasing a charge down to spark wild home celebrations.

Glasgow - last season's runners-up in the tournament - scored late on through Huw Jones, but it was no more than a consolation as Dragons emphatically tasted success on home soil for the first time this season.

Dragons 31-17 Castres Olympique – Basham treble stuns Castres in Europe

Back row Taine Basham scored a blistering first half hat-trick as Dragons opened their European Challenge Cup campaign with a stunning bonus point win over Castres at Rodney Parade.

Basham’s superb treble and an intercept try from wing Daf Howells saw Dragons race clear in a pulsating Pool 1 clash with the highly-rated Top 14 giants.

Basham became the first Dragon to score a European hat-trick since Tom Prydie in 2014.

A fierce second half saw Castres throw everything at Dean Ryan’s men, but a brave defensive effort saw the home side deservedly hold out to claim maximum points.

Dragons 25-16 Worcester Warriors – Impressive Dragons slay Warriors in Europe

Fly half Sam Davies produced a kicking masterclass as impressive Dragons produced a composed display that secured a crucial win over 14-man Worcester Warriors which allowed them to take control of Pool 1 in the European Challenge Cup.

On a wet and blustery night, centre Adam Warren went over in the second minute as Dragons made a dream start and scorched into a 13-0 lead.

The accurate boot of former Scotland international Duncan Weir edged Warriors back into the game by the break, as he sent over a hat-trick of penalties, and a try from Tom Howe early in the second half put them ahead.

However, the second half later belonged to Wales international ace Davies as he finished with 20 points as Worcester – who had replacement front row Ethan Waller sent off late on for a dangerous tackle – tasted defeat and missed out on a losing bonus point.

Dragons 22-20 Scarlets – Last-gasp Davies wins titanic derby

Fly-half Sam Davies struck a last-gasp drop-goal to snatch victory for Dragons over Scarlets in an absorbing first festive Welsh derby of the Pro14 season.

Scarlets led 17-16 after an eventful first half in which the teams shared three tries - Gareth Davies and Ken Owens for the visitors, Rhodri Williams the hosts - and two yellow cards.

The second half was a grittier affair, heavy rain at Rodney Parade forcing both sides into handling errors.

And after Davies traded penalties with Leigh Halfpenny, the Dragons fly-half struck the match-winning goal with the last kick of the game to spark delirious celebrations.

Dragons 25-18 Ospreys – Last gasp Dragons stun Ospreys

A late resurgence at Rodney Parade meant the Dragons came out victors against the Ospreys – along with an undefeated streak during the home derbies safely secured.

Dragons inflicted more misery on Ospreys in the final Welsh derby of the festive period. Late tries from man of the match Rio Dyer and replacement Adam Warren snatched victory after an earlier try from Wales prop Leon Brown. Former Ospreys outside-half Sam Davies added 10 points.

Ospreys had led 18-13 going into the final exchanges of a low-quality affair, but it was the Dragons who finished strong and managed to sneak the win in front of the Rodney Parade faithful.

Dragons 13-10 Toyota Cheetahs – Last-gasp Davies stuns Cheetahs

Dragons produced a stunning second half comeback at Rodney Parade to snatch a last gasp victory over Toyota Cheetahs in the Guinness PRO14.

Rodney Parade didn’t present the fixture with the kindest of weather with the match being played under horrendous blustery and wet conditions which resulted in a high number of kicks from both sides.

Cheetahs’ openside flanker Junior Pokomela crossed over for the first try of the evening and the visitors held out Dragons for the entire first half.

Dragons bounced back in the second to half after Jared Rosser crossed over and in a remarkable finish it was Sam Davies who snatched a last gasp victory with a penalty.
