Boss Dean Ryan believes the signing of Jamie Roberts can be instrumental in bringing out the best in his squad and the next generation of Dragons.
Vastly experienced centre Roberts has linked up with Dragons with immediate effect after put pen to paper on a deal to move to Rodney Parade.
The 33-year-old has clocked up time in the English Premiership, Top 14 and Super Rugby in the seven years since leaving Welsh rugby.
And Ryan believes those experiences will be huge as the squad looks to keep moving forward.
“Jamie joins the trajectory that we are on, which is about developing the players who are already there. We look in the market to see if people fit that,” said Ryan.
“What was overwhelming, when talking to Jamie, was his passion to return to Wales and his passion to help transition players in, through his experiences.
“That is where the connection started and we started to explore how things could work.
“We’re delighted because you can see the profile of the players we have got. At times we need a little bit more experience, we need a little bit more security. But we have got to keep those players moving and that fitted with what Jamie wanted.
“He always saw his career ending up back in Wales,” added Ryan.
“Covid-19 has changed what was going on at The Stormers and gave him the chance to talk to us.
“It was easy decision once you saw his passion for being in Wales and his passion for helping youngsters. That is the motivation that we have got in the region and he fits it.”
