Davies: We have made strides

25/08/2020

Sam Davies believes Dragons have made big strides this season – and is relishing two huge games in the league and Europe to underline that fact.

Playmaker Davies will be hoping to feature once again this Saturday evening as Dragons return home after nearly six months away to entertain Scarlets at Rodney Parade (kick-off 5.15pm).

The Wales ace acknowledges the league clash will give Dean Ryan’s men another chance to build with the European quarter-final with Bristol Bears less than a month away.

And reflecting on last weekend’s Guinness PRO14 draw with Ospreys, Davies believes that result just shows how far Dragons have come in the 2019/20 campaign.

“We probably should have beaten Ospreys,” said Davies. “There were a few chances we haven’t finished off and we have come off very frustrated.

“It was our first hit out back and we’re not happy with a draw with the Ospreys. That just shows how far we have come this season.

“We’ve still got a quarter-final to look forward to in Europe and we’re looking to use these games to build towards that and give people opportunities.

“We know it will be a real test to see where we are up against a team like Bristol.

“They are in the top four in England and we don’t have anything to lose and everything to gain so it is really exciting time for us.

“We have made big steps,” he added. “Dean (Ryan) has come in and allowed us to express ourselves and that Bristol game will be no different. It is massive for us.”

Before attention switches to Bristol, the Dragons have a very stern test against the play-off chasing Scarlets.

A win at Rodney Parade could yet see Glenn Delaney’s men leapfrog Munster into the final four.

“It’s a Welsh derby and a Guinness PRO14 game we want to win. We won’t be taking it lightly," added Davies.
