Carter praises Wales Under-20s spirit

24/02/2020

Dragons lock Ben Carter praised the spirit in the Wales Under-20s camp after they stunned world champions France to notch their first points of the Six Nations campaign.

Wales beat the French for the first time since the Grand Slam season of 2016 in atrocious conditions in Colwyn Bay.

The weather at Stadiwm Zipworld was horrendous but Wales threw the gauntlet down to France by opting to play into the teeth of the wind and driving rain in the first half.

And Dragons Academy ace Carter insisted that epitomised the attitude in the Wales camp as they bounced back from defeats to Italy and Ireland in the first two rounds.

“We went against the wind in the first half and hopefully it would help us out in the second,” said Carter after the 14-11 victory.

“The game plan worked well and we executed well in tough conditions.

“It’s brilliant to get the win. Forwards love a win in conditions like that and we will enjoy this result.”

The Welsh lineout was particularly good in tough conditions to the delight of second row Carter.

“We’ve had a lot of time to work on things during the off week - it came at the right time,” he said.

“To be fair to the boys, we controlled what we could control in very bad conditions. It makes it easier for the caller when everyone is switched on.”

It’s brilliant to get the win... Forwards love a win in conditions like that and we will enjoy this result...
