Wainwright: We will be firing for France

09/02/2020

Back row Aaron Wainwright insists Wales only need ‘tweaking’ to make sure they are firing and ready for France.

The Dragons ace started the game as Wayne Pivac’s men lost 24-14 to Ireland in the Guinness Six Nations in Dublin.

Wainwright admitted lessons would need to be learnt as Ireland slowed down ball and inflicted a first defeat on Wales in nine Six Nations games.

“I don’t think there are a lot of major things that need tweaking, there are a couple of minor things and then we will be firing and ready for France,” said Wainwright, who was joined by regional team-mates Ross Moriarty and Leon Brown for the clash.

“They did very well to slow the ball down. That is something that killed us a little hit and our efficiency to clear them out and get fast balls for our nines was something we struggled with a little bit.

“We want to play open and expansive rugby and I think at times it worked for us,” he added.

“It’s knowing when to give the offloads and knowing when to make sure that final pass is there.

I don’t think there are a lot of major things that need tweaking, there are a couple of minor things and then we will be firing and ready for France...
