Blues to play home game at Rodney Parade

22/07/2020

Dragons can confirm an agreement has been reached with Cardiff Blues that will see our regional rivals play a home Guinness PRO14 fixture at Rodney Parade.

With Cardiff Arms Park currently part of Dragon’s Heart Hospital at the Principality Stadium, an alternative venue was required for the region to complete the league season.

Cardiff Blues will now play the region’s home Round 15 league game with Ospreys at Rodney Parade on Sunday, August 30 (kick-off 5pm) – 24 hours after Dragons tackle Scarlets on home soil.

Supporters are reminded that both games during a busy double-header of league action in Newport that weekend will be played behind closed doors.

Mark Jones, Managing Director at Dragons, said: “We have always been fierce rivals on the field, but in these unprecedented times it is important that we can come together and support each other.

“We have now come to an agreement that will see Cardiff Blues play their final home game of the Guinness PRO14 season at Rodney Parade and we look forward to welcoming them to our home.

“As the busiest professional stadium in the United Kingdom, we are used to hosting back-to-back fixtures and I know the staff here will once again rise to the challenge as rugby returns to Rodney Parade.”

Cardiff Blues Chief Executive Richard Holland said: “Taking the game elsewhere in our region was not a realistic option due to the necessary compliance with Covid-19 protocols and our commercial obligations.

“Rodney Parade will obviously be fully Covid-19 compliant, has LED boards and boasts a fantastic playing service.

“We are very grateful to our friends at the Dragons, who have come to our aid and we are now looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”
