Grow your Mo! Several players at Dragons will be sporting new-looks on their top lip this month to raise much needed funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during November - with the motto of ‘Changing the face of men's health’.
Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Movember looks at mental health through a male lens, focusing on prevention, early intervention and health promotion. By 2030 they aim to reduce the rate of male suicides by 25%.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK, with one in eight UK men diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Globally, more than 1.3 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
Across the country, there are more than 333,500 men living with and beyond the disease. Many are dealing with serious side effects from treatment. It doesn’t have to be like this, so the Movember Foundation are taking action. By 2030 they aim to halve the number of men dying from prostate cancer and halve the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from treatment.
Testicular cancer strikes young, it is the most common cancer in young UK men. At greater than 95%, the odds of survival for men with testicular cancer are better than good – but for some men, long-term treatment-related side effects, mean quality of life is severely compromised.
The Movember Foundation focus on getting these predominantly young men back to living full and healthy lives. By 2030 they aim to halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer and halve the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from treatment.
