Ross: Back row boys excelling

03/11/2020

Gordon Ross has praised the influential contribution of back row tyros Ollie Griffiths and Harrison Keddie in recent weeks.

All-action Griffiths, 25, has been in quite sensational form since his return to action in the Guinness PRO14 at Ulster.

The Newbridge back rower again got through a huge amount of work against Munster alongside Ben Fry and Keddie.

Griffiths has now clocked up 36 tackles in two games – without a miss – and his eye-catching work at the breakdown has resulted in seven turnovers – the leading figure in the league.

And his work has not escaped the attention of Gordon Ross who wants to see Griffiths remain at Dragons and continue to clock up the minutes and impressive stats.

"Ollie has been absolutely outstanding,” said Ross. “His contributions in the game and his leadership has been excellent in the week. He puts his body through an unbelievable amount of work.

“Hopefully Ollie will stay with us because he deserves to be playing at a higher level the way he is going.”

Ross was also impressed by back row partner Keddie who has certainly shown the scars of battle in recent games.

“The way the game is going around the breakdown and the way it is managed, you need your back row in there putting their bodies on the line, and they have done that all season,” said the former Scotland international.

“I didn't know a lot of these boys when I came in a few months ago, but guys like Harrison has been superb every game.

“He puts his body on the line every time. He came away from Leinster and he could barely see out of his eye. He really does give it absolutely everything.”

Hopefully Ollie will stay with us because he deserves to be playing at a higher level the way he is going...
