Boss Dean Ryan lavished praise on man-of-the-match Jamie Roberts as the star centre shone on his Rodney Parade debut.
Roberts scored a first try for the region and was instrumental in both for Jordan Williams during the 26-18 win.
However, Ryan was also pleased with his defensive steel and organisation in the Guinness PRO14 clash. “Jamie was great,” smiled Ryan.
“I wish people had been here to see it. I know his dad would have loved to have been here to watch that.
“He looked like Jamie Roberts. Direct and difficult to get down.
“Jamie gave us shape and was great defensively with everyone around him. It was a great performance.”
Ryan was also thrilled to see Jordan Williams back in action in Newport adding: “It’s great to have that pace and the outside break.
“That’s two games in a year and he looked sharper than he did against Bristol.
“He brings other people into the game and he is a great threat.”
