Captain: We must stick to our process

12/10/2020

Captain Rhodri Williams insists Dragons will learn the lessons of the victory over Zebre – and vowed the team will ‘stick to our process’.

Dragons scored four tries on home soil – courtesy of Jordan Williams (2), Jamie Roberts and Elliot Dee – to take maximum points from the Guinness PRO14 fixture at Rodney Parade.

However, Director of Dragons Rugby Dean Ryan was left dissatisfied by the display as the home side let the Italians back into the clash after a poor end to the first period.

And his words were echoed by scrum half Williams who conceded the team knew that had to take on board the lessons of the night.

“We will look at that try and when we go and watch the video we know there are things to put right. It wasn’t our greatest performance,” said Williams.

“Credit to Zebre, they stuck in the game and conceding that try just before half-time saw momentum swing their way. Suddenly it was a five-point game.

“But we got five points, we learn from the mistakes we made and hopefully we can put it right in the future.

“We needed to stick to our process,” he added. “We slipped off that and started trying different things which wasn’t us.

“The big learning from the game was that we stick to our process for 80 minutes and keep putting them under pressure.

“Dean told us at half-time to stick to our own jobs. We were trying these different things and we were three tries up, we didn’t need to do that, we didn’t need to force it.

“We have our processes and we just need to stick to them. “It was an important win, a good result, but we will learn from those mistakes.”
