Dragons named Business Hero 2020

13/10/2020

Dragons have today been announced as a ‘UK Business Hero’ for 2020 - after being recogised by the British Chambers of Commerce for our work during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The British Chambers of Commerce launched a nationwide campaign last month to recognise the incredible work that UK businesses are doing, in the most challenging of years.

Dragons were nominated by the South Wales Chamber of Commerce for the Dragons Deliver scheme, launched during the pandemic in a bid to ensure the most vulnerable throughout Gwent were looked after during the crisis.

From the very start of the pandemic, Dragons offered support to the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and NHS by hosting a testing centre at Rodney Parade.

The new Dragons Deliver venture, which was spearheaded by our Community team, aimed to connect isolated communities through the delivery of essentials and prescriptions.

The first team squad at Dragons even got involved making welfare calls to senior supporters to ensure they had all they needed at this time of difficultly for many.

Dragons have now been announced as one of the winners and today received a letter from HRH The Countess of Wessex thanking the region for its work.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your positive contributions, congratulate you on your recognition as a UK Business Hero and wish you every success in your endeavours in the weeks and months ahead as we look to the recovery of our country,” it read.

Dragons have also been given a UK Business Heroes stamp to demonstrate that the region has gone the extra mile to support their local community during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Mark Jones, Managing Director at Dragons, said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the South Wales Chamber of Commerce and now be named a UK Business Hero for 2020.

“Playing our part in the local community is the at heart of what we’re about at the Dragons and in times of crisis people stick together to help their community.

“The Dragons Deliver project encapsulates that and we thank everyone who got involved to make a difference to those in need.”
