Buttress excited by Rodney Parade work

03/08/2021

Chairman David Buttress has expressed his excitement at the ongoing development work at Rodney Parade.

The home of the Dragons has witnessed a busy summer of activity as it undergoes a major renovation work ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign in the new United Rugby Championship and European Challenge Cup.

Contractors South Wales Sports Grounds have been on site for several months as a new pitch is installed while enhanced hospitality areas, new LED floodlights and expanded changing rooms are just some of the other projects ongoing.

Buttress is remaining tight-lipped on some of the other exciting improvements in the pipeline until the time is right.

But he is delighted that the famous old stadium is now getting a fresh new look ahead of the return of fans.

“There is lots going on at the ground and I think when people come back they will be excited and happy to see the ground,” said Buttress.

“For people who have spent time there, they know Rodney Parade is a special place and I think it’s had more love recently than it’s had for some time. \

He continued: “We definitely see ourselves as custodians of the stadium. It’s been there since the 1870s so we want to leave the place better than how we found it.

“This is part of that love and care that we are giving to the old lady that is Rodney Parade.

“The team is busy on various projects to improve things around the ground in the short-term and to ensure we keep investing in Rodney Parade for the long term too.

“There are various things happening, not just the pitch, that we look forward to sharing with supporters when the time is right.”
