Knoyle set for spell on sidelines

17/02/2021

Boss Dean Ryan has confirmed scrum half Tavis Knoyle faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury.

Knoyle – who has made eight appearances this season – sustained the injury in the Ospreys derby last month.

The 30-year-old has now undergone surgery as he starts his rehabilitation.

“An ACL injury is a significant injury and as always Tav grabs it and challenges it,” said Ryan.

“Tav will work extremely hard to see how quickly he can get back, but it’s a significant injury and a significant time injury.

“We had to look at what options are and what options we can add.”

Dragons have acted swiftly with Argentina international Gonzalo Bertranou joining on a deal until the end of the season.

And Director of Dragons Rugby has been impressed with the newcomer’s impact so far at Ystrad Mynach.

“I think in Gonzalo, in the two or three days he’s been here, has been a fantastic input into our environment,” said Ryan.

“He has been in these situations before with Jaguares in trying to build them up from a new franchise to being competitive.

“He understands the challenge and is looking forward to helping us.”
