Ton-up Lloyd expects confrontational test

11/02/2021

Prop Lloyd Fairbrother expects a confrontational test when he brings up his century of games in the Guinness PRO14 as Dragons face Edinburgh on Friday evening (kick-off 7.35pm).

Fairbrother is set to clock up his ton in the league fixture at Rodney Parade - seven years after making his league debut for the region.

The 29-year-old admits it will be a nice personal milestone to achieve.

But after defeat at the hands of Connacht last Friday under the lights, his focus is more on the team and a return to winnings ways.

“We were all disappointed, as a team, from the Connacht game,” he said. “I felt we were good in the scrum and locked it down, plus the maul clearly went well, but now we need want to kick on again.

“It’s Richard Cockerill and with his way of managing the team it will be drive, it will be scrum, it will be confrontational.

“There is no way of hiding from that, no running away from what it’s going to be, we got to match it head on.

“It’s an important game for us. We are as desperate for a win as much as anyone else, but it’s also about getting better off the field, getting this region better. It is a very important period for us."

Reflecting on his century, Fairbrother added: ‘It is 100 in the Guinness PRO14 this week so I’m really happy with that.

”Did I think I’d make a 100 when I arrived? Honestly, probably not.

“I was a young guy when I joined at the age of 22 from the Exeter Chiefs and had sort of everything in front of me.

“I have made a home in Wales, made a family and things have gone great with the region as well. It’s been a long time coming but over the moon with that century.”
