Williams: Accuracy crucial against Edinburgh

09/02/2021

Skipper Rhodri Williams has called on Dragons to produce an accurate display when they face Edinburgh Rugby at Rodney Parade on Friday night (kick-off 7.35pm).

Dragons fell to a 30-20 defeat at the hands of Connacht last week – in the first part of a hat-trick of home games under the lights in Newport.

Scrum half Williams was honest with his assessment of the game with the Irish province and insisted only a more precise 80-minute show against Edinburgh will make amends this week.

“I think it was just a lack accuracy across the park that cost us,” he said. “Credit to the forwards, the driving maul went well and we put a bit of pressure there.

“But are disappointed as a side that we came away with nothing. We need to look at ourselves and be ready to go again this week.

“There were obviously good moments, but we need an 80-minute performance now, not just moments,” he added.

“We let them (Connacht) score some easy tries and let them into our half and 22 quite easily with our indiscipline.

“We need to look at it, review it well and hopefully learn our lessons.”

Dragons went into the game without having played for almost a month but Williams refused to dwell on the time away from match action.

“I don’t want to use excuses,” added Williams. ”We’d three weeks without a game, but we are a professional side so we should be able to rock up on game day and be accurate. We lacked that against Connacht.

“We’re frustrated as a full squad and know we’ve got to do better and, like I said, hopefully show we have learnt our lessons from that game.”
