Young stars light up weekly stats

22/02/2021

Dragons rising stars Ben Fry and Ben Carter lit up the Guinness PRO14 stats table in Week 12 with an outstanding defensive effort against reigning champions Leinster at Rodney Parade.

Both players topped the tackle charts with 20 each in an epic clash with the Irish province that ended with Dragons claiming a losing bonus point thanks to two late tries.

It is the second time this season young lock Carter has topped the league’s tackling charts, following his epic over 30 tackles in the memorable away victory over Glasgow in December.

All-action back row Fry was not just content with topping the tackle charts this week - the 22-year-old also led the way in the PRO14 turnover charts with four to his name, twice as many as any other player in the competition.

The young Ben’s weren’t the only Dragons to shine in the PRO14 stat charts, birthday boy Brok Harris, who turns 36 today (Monday), made another 16 tackles on Friday night taking him to 122 for the season, putting him fourth in the entire PRO14 stats for the current campaign. Lock Joe Davies also impressed wth 18 tackles on the night.

Wing Ashton Hewitt is also proving as elusive as ever in the PRO14, riding high at the top of the defenders beaten charts with 31 to date this season.

Dragons face Zebre in Italy on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 5:15pm) where the Men of Gwent will be hoping to make a further impression on the league’s stat charts and leave Parma with the victory.
