Rosser looking to build momentum

21/01/2021

Wing Jared Rosser admits Dragons will be aiming to build momentum in the second part of this season - after a stop-start campaign to date.

Dean Ryan’s men are set to face seven games in quick succession from February through to April as the Guinness PRO14 concludes and the Rainbow Cup takes centre stage.

Full fixture dates are yet to be announced but the run of games will begin with rearranged clashes against Connacht (Friday, February 5) and Edinburgh (Friday, February 12) at Rodney Parade.

Former Wales Sevens star Rosser is excited at the prospect of getting back playing - and firmly believes Dragons have shown potential this season.

And after recent derby defeats, he believes the squad is ready to build on solid foundations in the remaining part of the league campaign.

"It has been a bit stop-start all season and, speaking to some of the boys, we just want to get a run of games going so we can build on our game,” said the Dragons Academy graduate.

“We’ve shown a lot of potential, but we know we’ve left a bit out on the pitch too.

“We’ve got seven games on the bounce coming up and the boys are champing at the bit to get into it. Hopefully we can build with each game and get some results.

“The boys were disappointed with the derby results, but looking at it from a whole there were a lot of positives,” he added.

“We’re trying to bring some new things into our game and build on our foundations that have looked really strong.

“Building on them in the next few weeks is a big focus for the team.”

Rosser clocked up his 50th Dragons appearance in the victory over Glasgow Warriors at the start of December – marking the milestone with a memorable try.

“It was nice to get my 50th - I didn’t think I was ever going to get it with the lockdowns and injuries I’ve had,” he smiled.

The speedster – who also scored in the recent derby defeat to Ospreys – is clearly enjoying his rugby at Dragons and is hopeful the team can keep progressing throughout the rest of the season.

And, despite the 23-year-old conceding it is different with no crowd at Rodney Parade, he still believes home advantage can be crucial for Dean Ryan’s men in the coming months.

“Home advantage is a big deal - although it is different this year with no fans,” he said. “Having a crowd makes a hell of a difference, especially on a Friday or Saturday night whenever we are playing.

“But it is still a big advantage having so many fixtures at home in familiar surroundings, so we can hopefully try and finish the season as strong as possible. “We just want to keep building,” he added.

“The foundation of our game has come on leaps and bounds. We just need to build from there now over the rest of the season.

“The boys are really looking forward to getting back playing. We all just want to get stuck into the games now and hopefully put in some strong performances.”
