Ryan aims to finish season on a high

09/06/2021

Dean Ryan wants his Dragons to finish the season with ‘optimism and belief’ as they face Leinster Rugby in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup on Friday night (kick-off 8.15pm).

The curtain will fall on a season like no other this week this week as Dragons head to Dublin and the RDS Arena.

The Round Six clash will be watched by 1,200 supporters inside the stadium as part of test events in Ireland.

And the Director of Dragons Rugby wants his team to rise to the occasion before the summer break from rugby.

“People keep telling me we are in week 51 or whatever of the season and it is important for us to how we finish,” he stated.

“We have said that a lot across the Rainbow Cup, but we’re pretty pleased with some of our performances over recent weeks.

“We wanted the results to be different but the level of competition has been outstanding.

“We would like that to be the finish on Friday and head into the summer with a lot of optimistic and belief in what we will be coming back to.”

Reflecting on the Rainbow Cup campaign as a whole, Ryan added: “The competition has been a good opportunity for us.

“Ioan Davies, Rio Dyer, Aneurin Owen, Ben Carter have all gained some really valuable experiences.

“People have mentioned trials and I think the Captain’s Challenge has strayed into a grey area and questioned the integrity of the game.

“I understand why they wanted to bring it in, but I will be pleased to see that one disappear.”
