Keddie: Let's keep building momentum

29/03/2021

Captain Harrison Keddie called on Dragons to keep building momentum after they finished the Guinness PRO14 season on a high.

Dragons defeated Edinburgh 24-17 at Principality Stadium to make it three wins out of four in the league in March.

Focus now turns to the last 16 clash with Northampton Saints in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday back at Rodney Parade (kick-off 5.30pm) before the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup starts up in April.

And back row Keddie is hoping the team can take belief and confidence from the season finale in the league into the new competitions.

“It’s all about momentum for us,” he said. “The season is not over, we still have quite a lot of games left so we want to keep this run going in Europe and the Rainbow Cup.

“Against Edinburgh we talked about keeping the energy up in defence and when we had a chance in attack to really put it on them.

“We showed in the opening half what we are capable of and that is a real positive for us.”

Dragons went onto the game with Edinburgh needing an improbably 45-point swing and to claim a bonus point.

Despite a superb first half show it was not to be and Keddie admitted there was disappointment that the team could not kick on in the second half in the Welsh capital.

“We’re pleased with the effort and to hold them out at the end, but disappointed we couldn’t kick on as much as we wanted to after the first half,” he added.

“We spoke about not worrying about the points difference at the start of the game so then you end up chasing things that aren’t there. It was about building a score and then building on that again.

“We wanted to see where we could be after 50 or 60 minutes and maybe we had a chance to do it, we’re disappointed we couldn’t kick on, but there are plenty of positives to take from that game.”
