Locked in! Homegrown Davies re-signs

18/03/2021

Towering lock Joe Davies will continue to hit the heights for Dragons after today agreeing a new contract at the region.

Dragons Academy product Davies has made 78 appearances for the Men of Gwent since his regional debut in 2013.

The 25-year-old is the latest homegrown Dragon to re-sign, joining the likes of Elliot Dee, Leon Brown, Aaron Wainwright, Ollie Griffiths, Harrison Keddie, Ben Carter and Aneurin Owen.

“We’re pleased another important homegrown talent has committed his future to us,” said Dean Ryan, Director of Dragons Rugby.

“Joe is a hard-working and committed member of our squad who is determined to help us achieve our long-term aspirations.”

Davies worked his way through the Academy system at Dragons, impressing at Under-16 and Under-18 level before playing for Bedwas and Newport in the Welsh Premiership.

He made his senior Dragons debut in 2013, in a Welsh regional derby against Scarlets in the LV=Cup.

The former Newport High School pupil, who has played for Wales at Under-20s level, has made 14 appearances this season.

“I’m really pleased to re-sign for my home region and excited about what we can achieve as a squad going forward,” said Davies.

“It’s been an unusual season for us all, but I do feel we’ve made real progress and can look forward with confidence.

“It’s meant a huge amount to me to play for the Dragons over the last seven seasons and I’ll continue to give everything I have to play a big role in our development.

“A huge thanks also to our fantastic fans for their unwavering support. All of us look forward to seeing you all again soon.”
