Ryan wants another venue boost

27/05/2021

Boss Dean Ryan believes the one-off move to Cardiff City Stadium this weekend can be another catalyst for his Dragons as they enter the final stages of the season.

Dragons face Glasgow Warriors in the Welsh capital on Saturday evening (kick-off 7.35pm) with Rodney Parade currently out of action as the pitch is replaced.

Ryan’s men have already impressed in Cardiff this term as the move to the Principality Stadium in March harvested wins over Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby while Ulster were pushed all the way.

And the Director of Dragons Rugby believes new surroundings can once again inspire his team.

“We’re looking forward to it,” said Ryan. “Moving to the national stadium was a big boost for us and gave us a bit of a lift. I think the Cardiff City Stadium move can do the same.

“Glasgow are a side we have played pretty well against in recent times and I think the game we had with them at the stadium was probably one of our highlights - we are keen to sort of test ourselves again.

“We have not struggled in these last four or five weeks for enthusiasm and focus so we are looking forward to the games.

“The youngsters in the squad have freshened that up for us, so we are excited to see where we are at the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Ryan has revealed the likes of Elliot Dee will return this weekend.

“There is a couple of people we are probably just being overly protected with,” he added. “Rhodri Williams would be one of those, Harrison Keddie would be another.

“We are in danger of getting close to picking full choice back rows with Ollie Griffiths back, Ross Moriarty back plus Screechy (Matthew Screech).

"Elliot (Dee) is also back in so we are starting to get some of those guys coming back and we are hopeful of them getting a springboard into Test windows this summer. They are keen to get back and play as well.”
