URC Round Six Preview

23/11/2021

The United Rugby Championship heads to South Africa as the season resumes following a one-month international break.

After beginning the inaugural URC season on the road, the South African teams will now have home advantage, with all four sides back on familiar territory this weekend.

Round 6 begins in Ireland on Friday night, when Connacht welcome the Ospreys to The Sportsground, before six matches take place on Saturday.

DHL Stormers meet Zebre Parma - the only team still to register a win - in Cape Town and, at the same time, Benetton and Glasgow Warriors collide at the Stadio Monigo.

Cell C Sharks host the Scarlets and Edinburgh head to Wales to meet the Dragons at Rodney Parade.

Vodacom Bulls take on Munster in Pretoria before a top-of-the-table clash between leaders Leinster and Ulster at the RDS Arena rounds off the day’s action. Emirates Lions face Cardiff in Johannesburg on Sunday to complete Round 6.

Saturday, November 27 - Dragons v Edinburgh - Rodney Parade, Newport

Kick-off 5:15pm UK (6:15 ITA, 7:15 SA) | Live on Premier Sports, URC TV

Officials:

Referee: Mike Adamson (SRU, 57th competition game) Assistant: Elgan Williams, Richard Brace (both WRU) TMO: Sam Grove White (SRU)

Preview:

The overall head-to-head record suggests a potentially tight contest, with Edinburgh having won 18 times to the Dragons' 15, with one draw.

Most recent form, though, is in Edinburgh's favour following successive victories over the Vodacom Bulls and Zebre Parma while Dragons suffered losses against the DHL Stormers and Cardiff.

The Dragons can at least reflect on some strong showings against Edinburgh in Newport, with the Scottish side only having won once on their last four visits.

But Edinburgh will travel south on the back of ending a six-game losing run away from home when they defeated Zebre 27-10 last time out.

Overall URC head-to-head record:

Played 34, Dragons won 15, Edinburgh won 18 with 1 match drawn.

  • Edinburgh’s only defeat in the United Rugby Championship this season was by the narrowest of margins to Benetton in Treviso in Round 2.
  • Edinburgh won their most recent away game 27-10 against Zebre in Parma to end a six-game winless streak on their travels in all competitions.
