Lock ace Williams back in training

26/10/2021

Dragons have been handed an injury boost with the news that lock Max Williams has returned to full training.

Dragons Academy product Williams was ruled out of action for the majority of last season with a serious Achilles injury.

However, the 23-year-old – who made his senior debut in 2017 and has made 22 appearances for the Men of Gwent – is now set to step up his bid for action over the coming weeks.

Dean Ryan, Director of Dragons Rugby has also revealed centre Jamie Roberts is closing in on a comeback after minor knee surgery.

“Max is back around us now after a long-term injury – back in training – so that is great news,” said Ryan.

“It’s good to have him back on deck and now we have got to make some decisions on how he comes back.

“Jamie had minor surgery as we felt this was the window, before the four-week break from games, to get him back fresh.

“He is on track for when we come back out of the international window.”

Meanwhile, Ryan has also praised the returning Adam Warren after the centre made his first start in 11 months in the recent game with DHL Stormers.

“Let’s remember how difficult that is, to be out for such a long length of time injured but also come into a game of that physicality and stress (against Stormers) at late notice,” he said.

“His standards in training, his knowledge and his ability to slot in and get things right, to be flexible and move across different positions and still apply the same is a real credit to his diligence as a professional.”
