Big Joe set for century in Italy

29/04/2022

Lock Joe Davies will make his 100th appearance for Dragons as they tackle Zebre in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3.05pm UK time).

Davies will lead the team out at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi to reach his milestone – becoming only the 32nd player to hit a century for the Men of Gwent.

Boss Dean Ryan makes a total of four changes to the starting line-up with Davies handed a start alongside Ben Carter.

Prop Chris Coleman is called up to pack down with Aki Seiuli and Taylor Davies up front.

Taine Basham is named at Number Eight while the only change to the back line is a recall for scrum half Rhodri Williams.

Hooker James Benjamin, prop Mesake Doge, back row Lennon Greggains and scrum half Lewis Jones are among those to feature among the replacements.

Leon Brown, Elliot Dee, Will Rowlands and Aaron Wainwright drop out of the match day squad and miss the game though injury.

Ryan said: “We’re looking forward to the fixture in Italy and know we need to improve on last weekend to get the right result.

“We were disappointed with our error rate against Scarlets and, when we got into the lead, we were not good enough to close out the game.

“We’ve got to get a better handle on the error rate, and we know that Zebre will look to pressure us at the drive. We know what is coming and have got to perform better to get the result we all want.”

Dragons: Jordan Williams, Rio Dyer, Adam Warren, Jack Dixon, Jared Rosser, Sam Davies, Rhodri Williams; Aki Seiuli, Taylor Davies, Chris Coleman, Joe Davies, Ben Carter, Harri Keddie (c), Ben Fry, Taine Basham

Replacements: James Benjamin, Josh Reynolds, Mesake Doge, Huw Taylor, Lennon Greggains, Lewis Jones, Will Reed, Josh Lewis
