Southern Hemisphere heavyweights back for 2022

07/04/2022

Rugby Championship superstars from New Zealand, Australia and Argentina will make a welcome return to Cardiff for the 2022 Autumn Nations Series.

Stars of the southern hemisphere game will be joined by Wales’ 2023 Rugby World Cup Pool C opponents Georgia to complete four back-to-back weekends of international action at Principality Stadium in November.

Wales begin their 2022/23 season on Saturday 5th November against the All Blacks in what will be the 37th meeting between the two sides.

Los Pumas return to Cardiff on Saturday 12th November, back after two visits to Principality Stadium last July. With more fans able to watch the action this time around following capped attendances in 2021 due to Covid.

The third round of the series sees Georgia return to the Welsh capital on Saturday 19th November for the first time since 2017, after the last meeting between the two sides was moved to Parc y Scarlets when the Principality Stadium became a field hospital in 2020. This fixture has entertained Welsh crowds on three previous occasions in total and the home side will enter the Test knowing they’ve won each prior meeting, including at Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.

The final match and climax of the 2022 Autumn Nations Series sees Wales and Australia compete for the James Bevan trophy. Wales will want to hold on to their winning streak and secure a record fourth consecutive win against the Wallabies, on Saturday 26th November.

“Wayne Pivac and his Wales squad will relish the opportunity to get back out on the pitch after a tough Six Nations tournament,” said WRU CEO Steve Phillips.

“In international rugby you always want to test yourselves against the best teams and we will be facing each of the very best sides in the world in the year ahead.

“With a three-Test tour of South Africa preceding the 2022 Autumn Nations Series, we will be taking on the full set of Rugby Championship opposition.

“Add to that the extra attraction of facing our future 2023 Rugby World Cup Pool C opponents Georgia on home soil and meeting the Wallabies, who we also face in the Rugby World Cup, and this year’s Autumn Nations Series presents an extremely challenging and exciting prospect for all.

“These matches, together with the 2023 Six Nations Championship, will form a vital part of Rugby World Cup preparation.

“With four Saturday afternoon kick-offs in Cardiff against top quality opposition to look forward to this autumn, the best place to buy a ticket will, as always, be via WRU member clubs and further information about availability will be released soon.”

General prices for Autumn Nations Series tickets have not risen since 2018 and remain frozen in all categories for the Georgia, Argentina and Australia matches in 2022.

Whilst there is a £10 increase to tickets for the New Zealand match, with the exception of the £40 entry ticket, concessionary U17s tickets - which carry a 50% discount - remain available in all price categories for all Autumn Nations Series matches.

In addition, Alcohol Free Zone tickets have been priced even more competitively for all home matches, with tickets in this area now available as category D (previously C) from £15 (Georgia), £25 (Argentina), £35 Australia and £70 (New Zealand) for adults - with a 50% reduction in price for U17s.

Ticket applications for the Autumn Nations Series will be available for WRU Member Clubs, Debenture Holders and Premium members from next week meaning tickets will be available to buy from your local rugby club ahead of public sale, which is planned for Friday 10 June. WRU official hospitality and travel packages are available to purchase now.

“All proceeds from Welsh international tickets are fed directly back into the game in Wales,” added Phillips. “Whilst a price increase has been necessary for of our highest demand fixture, we have also taken care to ensure Wales matches generally are as accessible as ever, with a price point and customer offering to cater for as wide an audience as possible.”
